Our Journey to Becoming Dog Owners: The Story of Bear

Written By MoneyMoolah.co.uk

As a family, we had always dreamed of owning a dog, but we knew that timing was everything. We wanted to ensure that we could balance our working lives and give our new puppy the time and attention he deserved. After a lot of research, we finally decided that the right time had come.

Our first task was to figure out what kind of dog would suit our family. We decided we wanted a large, friendly dog, and after some research, we landed on a Labrador. Let’s be honest – those adorable puppy pictures had a lot to do with it!

Next, we focused on finding a reputable breeder. We knew it was crucial to choose a breeder who was Kennel Club registered. We spent hours researching and found Bear through Pets for Us. We contacted the breeder and made sure to visit the litter and meet the mother in Monmouthshire.

Visiting Bear as a tiny puppy was magical. He was surrounded by his brothers and sisters, and it was clear from the start that he was a beautiful and special dog. As he grew older, we would hear comments about his good head shape and how handsome he was – he definitely stood out in the litter.

We carefully planned to bring Bear home early in the summer holidays so we had plenty of time to settle him in. The first few days were spent bonding, and we were able to start establishing routines with him.

Bear was such a unique puppy. One funny quirk he had when he first started eating was sticking his elbows out, almost like he was trying to protect his food from his siblings. Though he only did this once, it was a moment we’ll always remember. Now, he’s a fully grown Labrador and still incredibly food-driven – something we lovingly deal with, despite all the fur he sheds! Nothing that our Shark Animal Vacuum can't deal with though!

Our journey as dog owners has been filled with love, learning, and a few surprises. We’ve already picked up some great tips along the way, like sticking to the same food Bear was eating at the breeder’s (Field and Trial), which made his transition much easier. Also we have been forever grateful that we took out pet insurance - meaning that Bear is in safe hands when things go wrong. We’re excited to share our experiences, the challenges, and the joys of being Labrador owners.

Stay tuned for more tips and stories from our life with Bear, and enjoy some of our favourite photos from his early days with us!
